2004 was a good year for summer holidays. Beth had finished university, I'd resigned my position in Bristol in preperation for the move to Macclesfield (and got kicked out early on full pay, which was a bonus), and we spent a few weeks on a Mini adventure around Europe.
At some point I'll put together a seperate article for the Europe travels.
Midway through our time in Europe we picked up Emily and Mike from Geneva and the four of us spent a week in Morzine. This was a very welcome break from campsites and guide books! The alps in the summer are fantastic - usually very hot with damp spells every now and then. We were subject to one of these on our last night with a very dramatic thunderstorm passing through the valley. This caused the girls to get sore throats from saying "ooohh" and "aaahhh" every time lightning struck.
As usual, click on the photos to enlarge.
This is Beth (she's there honest - you need to look hard) in Evian the day before we arrived in Morzine. The sunset over lake Geneva is always a treat. Bizarrely, our waiter in the resturant in Evian was an Italian fella who used to live in Croydon. Oh, it's a small world....
This is Lac Montriond, a few miles from Morzine. I'm not going to apologise for yet another photo of this - I just love this lake. I take a photo of this nearly every time I'm in town and it never ceases to amaze me. This is taken from the Ardent end, near to where the waterfall joins the lake. I took this just before we walked up the waterfall to Ardent.
I've forgotten where this was, or what is was, or how it was formed. I thought if I put it here then Em would probably email me to remind me. Em?
The happy trio on the path up the Cascade de Nyon. Further down the path was a little adventure course that had been set up for kids. The waterfalls here were not as dramtic as Ardent, but the walk was more serene and less busy.
Oh yes, it's here. The long awaited Ressachaux video is finally complete!
During the week we spent in Morzine, we wanted to try and climb one of the imposing mountains that surround the valley. I'd had my eye on the Ressachaux since I first went there, and this is the video of our attempt. Best viewed with sound. Windows media player.
